Eve and Sophie, our new Research Impact and Engagement Managers, reflect on one of the key messages from the UK Census User Conference 2025. We also invite you to take part in our short survey so that we can better understand our users’ experiences.
One of the standout moments from the UK Census User Conference 2025, hosted by the UK Data Service on the 12th and 13th of June, was the the keynote address by Jeni Tennison from Connected by data.
Connected by Data is an organisation advocating for stronger community involvement in decisions about data and artificial intelligence.
Jeni’s talk offered a compelling reminder that data about people must also be with and for them, shaped by their needs, voices and experiences. The message was clear – that trust and open dialogue must be built into the heart of our work. She emphasised that the clearest path to building this trust is through deeper, more meaningful public engagement:
‘You have to ask the people’
With this in mind, we want to hear directly from Census users – those who turn raw population data into meaningful insight and impact.
How do you use the census data – to map inequalities, track demographic shifts, or to uncover patterns in housing, health or or migration?
At the UK Data Service, we have supported access to census data for many years. Now, we are inviting you to take part in a short survey to better understand how and why you use census datasets through our platform – and what you want to see from us in the future.
Your responses will help us improve access, tailor support, and ensure the census remains a cornerstone for high-impact research. Completing the survey will automatically enter you in a draw for a £25 Amazon voucher.
We also invite you to sign up for a longer meeting with one of the team to discuss your questions and comments with an additional thank you voucher from us (more information in the survey link).
Just three questions to help us understand you better and further develop our census offerings.
